THE FOREST BANK
Skovbanken is the island's highest point and is marked on the field with a stone and stories that you can explore.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE ISLAND
On the eastern side of the island, you get the best overview of all of Omø from Skovbanken, which is the island's highest point with its 24 meters above sea level.
From here you can see the harbour, the village with the church, the lake, the bog and the lighthouse. In clear weather, you can even see as many as ten islands: Sprogø, Fyn, Langeland, Lolland, Femø, Fejø, Vejrø, Glænø, Sjælland and the neighboring island of Agersø.
Omø originally consisted of two islands, where Skovbanken was formed by the ice first. The other island is where Omø City is now located. Lake Omø is the last remnant of the strait that divided the two islands.
It is in the area on the eastern side of the island that a few years ago a large silver treasure was found, dating all the way back to the time of Svend Tveskæg. Elsewhere on the island, however, traces of people from the Ertebølle culture approximately 5400 – 3900 BC have been found.
