STORM FLOODS
On 2 November 2006, Omø was hit by a storm surge. The water level was
when it was at its highest, 180 cm above daily waters.
Many areas of Omø were put under water. The worst hit was Kirkehavn, where many houses were flooded and required full or partial renovation.
The storm surge left a deep mark on Omø, and a working group was set up, which in the years after the storm surge worked to ensure that the island got proper coastal protection.
There were many challenges along the way, not least of a financial nature, but with the help of the Folketing and Slagelse Municipality, we succeeded after many years, and in 2014 the dike was completed.
According to current legislation, a crucible should then be set up, consisting of the affected plot owners. On 10 April 2016, there was a founding general meeting in Digelaget Omø Nord.
