The Lighthouse On Omø

The lighthouse on Omø was built in 1893-94. It is 22 metres tall and has always been sector light tower*. The lighthouse had originally a fixed lens and a three-wick burner. The burner was replaced in 1923 with a Chance Brothers mantle burner. The round, detached brick tower, two residential buildings and outhouses – privately owned - surround a courtyard. (Please do not trespass the private area).

You can get to the lighthouse by Fyrvej past the bog (Mosen). It is a beautiful stretch on which you have the opportunity to study closely Omø’s flora and fauna. In the early spring hundreds of natterjacks are heard day and night as well as the various kinds of wading birds breeding in the bog. (Read more in the Hiking Routes: Route 3)
